“The Nightmare Story” (2023) is the tale of a boy who ventures into the unknown to find a cure for his mother’s rare disease… before it’s too late.

With inspiration in Eastern European Folklore and old world cautionary fables, “The Nightmare Story” sweeps audiences along for the journey of an incredible tale, guided by a bizarre group of storytellers under lamplight. As his mother’s only salvation, Boy sets off across the countryside for his mother’s cure, encountering the frightening and heart-piercing nightmares the world has to offer. This musical unfolds a sequence of dangerous encounters, high impulses, and amazingly wide reaching heights. Pig Pen Theatre delivers this beautiful tale within a core ensemble, each actor bending, jumping, and shifting through characters to aid in the folk-style adventure. “The Nightmare Story” will feature live instrumentation through banjo, guitar, piano, violin, and percussion, along with a variety of puppetry, foley work, and theatrical sequences.

This production is approximately one hour in length with a ten minute intermission. Please be aware, this production contains loud noises and flashing lights.
